In one of my WinNT 4.0 Server I have a 17Gb disk with two partitions on it. One primary partition 2Gb containing system & boot disk and remaining 15gb used as extended partition.

I want to resize my primary partition from 2Gb to 4Gb. I have other 3 disks in this system on which I have installed Oracle and many other applications. I don’t want to disturb my other application installation. I would appreciate if someone guide me how to resize a system/boot partition without losing any installation application entries.

Thanks in advance.

I believe some sofdtware can do it. Although we're not meant to promote stuff on here as I don't work for powerquest or sell any kind of software (i'm just a programmer) I guess I can say. I would use Powerquest Partition ServerMagic. Of course ALWAYS backup first!

Im willing to bet your first partition is FAT and the large one is NTFS. I may be wrong, but that FAT cant be any larger than 2gig. You might need to backup, then reformat everything as NTFS.

although DOS/WIN95 FAT16 support is limited to 2GIG I think NT4 FAT16 support puts it at 4GB limit. Correct if I'm wrong?

partition magic can adjust the partition size. There is a limit when *INSTALLING* NT to the NTFS partition but not after the fact. I run several servers with over 30 gig NTFS and a FAT16 boot partition of a couple gig. FAT is limited to 2 gig but PM can covert it to NTFS and resize it in one fell swoop if needed. FAT32 can do the 4 gig just fine but NT4 does not understand what FAT32 is... but sysInternals has a FAT32 driver for NT so you can read/write to it. Win2K knows all the above without any messy drivers.
