Resize Columns When Grid Resized

Is there a way to resize the columns or just some of the columns in a grid when the grid is resized? I don't want to use auto fit. What I really want to do is mark some of my columns to resize when the grid resizes and leave the others at a fixed width. Has anyone done anything like this or have any ideas? This is for framework 1.1, but would like to hear ideas for all frameworks.
