Resetting PROM values on E250

We have several E250 servers out in production using RSC for console access. On a few occasions, we've had motherboards go bad. However, since the RSC settings are on the motherboard, there's no way to access the console. In some cases we've been lucky enough for the server to come up so we could telnet in and reprogram the RSC, but not always. We've occasionally had to either put a fresh PROM in the new motherboard that's not set to use RSC or put the original PROM in another server to change the console settings to get into the machine.

Is there some easy way to reset the PROM, say by turning the power switch a certain way? I've heard you can do something similar with some of the SunFire systems.

This looks like it tells how to update the PROM software. What I'm looking for is some way to set all variables to their default values so that the console will point to ttya instead of RSC in the event that RSC (and thus the system console) is inaccessable.

If you can get to an [tt]ok[/tt] prompt, the command "[tt]set-defaults[/tt]" will reset all prom parameters to their factory defaults.

Also, you can hold down "Stop-N" right after applying power to the system and hold it till the keyboard LEDs flash. This resets the NVRAM to it's default values. This doesn't work if PROM security is turned on.

Hope this helps.
