I have a W2K Pro computer that I'm using as a small file server. I have 40 users with mapped drives to this computer who regularly put files onto or retrieve files from it.

W2K Pro will only allow 10 simultaneous connections to this computer, which is more than enough, but what I'm finding is that users are appearing connected to it when really they aren't. I guess it's something to do with logging onto the domain and their workstation mapping the drive to it. So, the computer is getting oversubscribed.

Is there an easy way around this (and please don't say "upgrade to W2K Server")? Is there a tweak or utility that will allow me to reset connections to the computer after x amount of idletime for instance?

I don't know of a way to automate this as you'd like, but it can be done manually through Computer Mgmt-> Shared Folders-> Sessions. You can close sessions that are idle there...

Thanks,
