Hi -

I've been going round & round with this one. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion. I was trying to reset a user's pw from ConsoleOne -- GroupWise plugin install.

I found the correct area to change it, typed in the new GW PW, sync'd w/DNS. Nothing. New password would not take. No matter what I tried, simply wouldn't work.

Going through NWAdmin was the only way I could reset this users GW password. Tried on a few other users. Same result. GW PW would not change.

GW: 6.0.1
ConsoleOne: 1.3.5

Thank you.

We use GroupWise 5.5 and I have encountered this before. Here is how I got past it...

I cleared the checkbox that requires user to have a password and save the change. Then have the user log into GW and they should not get a password box. Then have them log out of GW and set their GW password restrictions back to normal but uncheck the box that requires a unique password (if is already checked). Then give them a unique password and have them try it. If it works then set all of the settings back to normal for their GW account.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

never had this prob

is the system set to sync with the ds
can remember where this is setup
will look at my system tomorrow

thanks for the replies.

MrMajik -- I tried your suggestions. I checked, unchecked, rechecked, etc... pretty much any combination I could think of after your recommendations. Still same results. The network PW for the user was changed, but the GW still didn't see it.

I sync'd after each change. Gave it a few minutes before trying. Not sure what else to do. Thankfully NWAdmin does still works. I know your not supposed to use it with 6.x but I don't have a lot of options.

Thanks again.

michigan,

Using NWAdmin to administer any part of GroupWise 6 and up is a bad idea. Novell says that it could cause problems with the GW database. See the second TID below.

Anyway, I found a couple TID's which you may want to read. The first one doesn't sound like the problem you've described, but I decided to include it anyway.

Cannot Change a user's GroupWise Password in ConsoleOne:
How to reset a users GroupWise password without NWADMIN or ConsoleOne:
You could try to re-associate the GroupWise user with his/her NDS (eDirectory) object.
1. In GroupWise View of ConsoleOne select the offending user object.

2. Choose Tools->GroupWise Utilities->GW/eDirectory Association->Associate objects from the menus.

3. Locate the appropriate user object in the tree and click OK.

You could also try to re-synchronize the user object with NDS:
1. In ConsoleOne, select the domain which contains the offending user.

2. Select Tools->GroupWise Utilities->Synchronize... from the menus.

I don't know if either of these things would help. But, I don't think they would hurt anything to try them.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
