Hi,

I have been given a number of servers to administer that are running Arcserve 11, but unfortunately we have not been given the caroot password.

Is there a way i can reset this without having to reinstall the app?

use the command line AUTHSETUP /p ..

Authsetup (403) : connect to domain server (iter=2)
Authsetup (403) : connect to domain server (iter=3)
Authsetup (403) : connect to domain server (iter=4)
Authsetup (403) : connect to domain server (iter=5)
Authsetup (411) : could not connect to either pds\sds domain services

Hi,

On this server check if caauthd.exe is running..
do a CSTOP and CSTART.. try again..
if not try rebooting the server..

IF that fails to help.. check if the discovery.cfg file is pointing a different server as the "primary server" . Change it to the loacal server name.

I am also in need of the password for caroot. We have never needed to restore the backup and just found that it had a password. The technician that set up the backups thought that it may be a default password. I saw that someone else needed the password changed, but I am not sure that I understood the suggestion that was given. Where would you key that in and what would you do once you got there?

Hi,

when you say u need a password to restore ?

Are u prompted for a session\encryption password ?
If this.. this is not the caroot password..

you have the option to protect ur backups from unauthorized restores using a password.. if you lose this password there is little that can be done to restore..
