Reset password (Cable/DSL Gateway - 3C857)

I've been using the search function without finding any answers to my problem. Hope someon can help me out here.. I would appricate it!

When I first installed the router I changed the password on the admin site. Now I need to configure something, but have lost the password.

The steps mentioned at 3com's websites and at the manuals don't seem to work for me.

-Have anyone managed their way to the reset process, give me a clue of what I need to do...

The text you read in manual maybe a little trick. You must use a direct cable to connect A LAN PORT of 3c857 TO THE WAN PORT of the same 3C857.

It must work.
