I've read several posts that tell how to reset the Partner Messaging R1 back to factory default but my problem is that the last guy on the system set the password to something unknown.

I know the standard is 123456 and have tried many others including the Nortel 266344 (config).

Can I reset it without actually logging in?

Help!

Hi marker2001,
The back door is an Avaya secret. When a new messaging is first accessed, it does not have a default password. Anything will work because your first task is to define a password. I use 123456 as the first access only because I'm mentally lazy, and change it. I have tried random numbers and they work too.
I am told the charge from Avaya in the States is not too bad to unlock your vm. In Canada, it cost an arm and a leg (plus a good part of thigh [neutral]). It may not be worth your time to worry about it. No chance of talking to "the guy" is there?

Well Chris, it turns out that the system was a R6 - We figured it was an R1 cause the sticker only said Partner Messaging.
Anyway, we ended up calling Avaya - weekend rate only $120 for a 1/2 hour - Yikes! Thank God for clients with Master Cards.

Turns out hours later I was putting hte sus tem to bed and went to put the cover back on. And there, away from everything else on the cover. Right in the middle of the cover, was a sticker of the last tech company to service this unit.
Oh well . . .

In my defense - the cover was off when I got there . . .

Thanks for trying.

Hi Mark,
I guess the previous guys weren't that bad. Anyhow, it was the customer's problem. I hear the normal day rate is $60.00 down there. If the customer could have waited ...

Hey Mark, did you laugh when you saw the number in the cover?

-Chris

Chris -
I did laugh, but fortunately the password number was not just written there on the cabinet - THAT would have been too funny - It was just the name and phone number of the vendor.
