Hi,

When my mailsweeper machine initates a conversation with the firewall inorder to send mail, ethereal shows that the firewall wan ip sends a ack\rst in response to the inital syn sent by mailsweeper. Etheral states the "reset casue: rctcpi". I think this is why I can't sent email. What on earth could it mean?

Thanks

The firewall is blocking your connection attempt.

When a client wants to establish a connection to a server using TCP, it sends a SYN packet. If the server receives the SYN packet (that is, it wasn't dropped along the way), it checks to see if the requested port is accepting connections. If so, the server will respond with SYN/ACK. If the server is not accepting connections on the requested port, the server will refuse the connection by sending a reset (RST).

The firewall is blocking your attempt by responding to your SYN with a RST, causing mailsweeper to think the server refused the connection. The firewall must be configured to allow you through before mailsweeper will be allowed to connect.

Thanks for the info. Thats whats weird because I have a rule to allow all types of traffic out, and I got the sonicwall technician to https to it and verify settings on SW correct and there are. I'm wondering if my firewall is duff!
