I recently bought an IBM thinkpad from a flea market in Northern California. I paid 400.00. There is a password that must be entered Someone once called it a bios password. I don't know what to do. The person has not returned to the flea market since and it has been weeks. How can I reset the stupid thing? I really can't afford to throw away 400.00. Please someone help.

Hi,

BIOS password problem cannot be solved, without opening the thinkpad ; unless you provide the valid password.

I am not a harware expert, but I am aware that there is a 3 Volt battery (normally cicular shaped, like a large button) which powers the BIOS hardware to keep the information stored intact. There is a provision to remove this information, by short circuiting the 2 jumpers. But this needs certain expertise and you need to study the hardware diagram came a long with this Laptop.

Easy way would be, simply remove this battery and keep it aside for 5-10 minutes, so that the BIOS information stored is erased by itself.
