Hi all,

How can I reserve a port (like 5000) and prevent any application from using it.
Should I add it to the file /etc/services? and how?

Your help would be greatly appreciated

IMHO I believe once your application uses that port (provided that no other application is using it by that time) and then your appliation starts listening on that port then it won't be possible for other applications to use that port!

and yes you have to add it to /etc/services if it wasn't there!

Regards,
Khalid
