RES3700 - Friday Cocktail Promo Query

Hi All,

I'm sure this may have been asked before in a different 'guise', so apologies if so, but I could really do with some specific\direct advice.

We have a single RVC (out of 18) within our RES3700 system that has 12x cocktails that currently sell at Main Level 1 (all £6.00), however on a Friday night the restaurant would like to offer a promotion to all diners where their first cocktail is free, and then subsequent cocktails are available to purchase at £3.00 (so effectively half price for the remainder of the night).

In an ideal world I would like the system to identify that the business date is a Friday, and when you press the specific cocktail button on the screen it automatically sells at £3.00. But if pressed on any other night, it sells at £6.00. However, I do not wish to affect any other menu items that are processed within the RVC on the nights in question.

I have tried other methods, for example... using a macro behind a button to change the required Main Level (either to ML2 or ML3 for the promo price), and within the macro stipulating to change back to ML1 before moving on.... this does work, however seems to play up if a staff member adds a item to a check via a macro button, then decides to voids the item within the same service round, then chooses another menu item (not a cocktail) which only has a price in ML1, it then incorrectly adds\sells the subsequent item at £0.00 because ML2 or ML3 maybe null for this new item... the void feature in RES when used with a macro button does not seem to return the system to ML1... hope that makes sense..?

Thank you in advance for any assistance available.

check out this thread:

thread693-1535782: Help Setting Up Happy Hour in Micros 3700

Thanks for the link, it all sounded great until I got to the part that said:

"But be careful because this setup of the Happy Hour mean that all other items with regular price at the time of the Happy Hour should have price on the field 2 (the same price as field 1) if they do not have they can not be marked in the checks."

The issue I have is that some of the other items sold on the same night, i.e. Cover Charges have 5/6 prices per menu item.
It sounds like ML1 price needs copying to ML2 for all other items sold that are not included in this particular promotion....
I was hoping that I could just implement something that would pick out the promo cocktails without having any configuration requirements for all existing items....

Hope that makes sense?

If you're not going to use Menu Levels, you're only real option (assuming you're on RES 5) is an automatic discount with specific triggers setup. You'll only be able to setup a specific price that applies to all items in the trigger group, or a $ reduction, or % reduction. You won't be able to give each item a specific price without creating individual discounts for each with this method.

Thanks Moregelen,

Do you have any idea why we experience the issue when using transaction void feature on a macro, it seems to not return the ML to 1, even though I have told it to in the macros final steps... this is the only thing that puts me off using macros, they work great for me when selling items if there are no voids required. The only way to stop the issue is to 'send' a check after a macro void, then pickup again and the till is then back to ML1....

If cover charges is using Main Levels in prices 2-10, then the cocktails on Friday can use the Sub levels, or vice versa. Otherwise, I would use auto discounts.

Not sure on the macro issue, sorry.

Thanks David,

So is it possible to force certain items through (using a sub level) for a particular time period? Sorry, have never used sub levels before...

It is the same as Main Levels except the menu item class has an option to use sub levels for pricing, all other classes (covers) will use the main levels, and some items can ignore levels all together (just one price all the time).
