Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can offer me some assistance...

We have a large number of Micros workstations, but in some areas we are thinking of removing the physical workstation and just running POS Operations on a shared Win7 PC.

I have installed POS OPS on a test PC, connected an Epson TM-T88IV via a serial connection to COM1, then used a Cash Base RJ11 drawer into the rear of the printer.

I then downloaded the Epson SetupPOS v2.00 OPOS software, and have created a Printer Device and a Cash Drawer Device.
Now from the Epson software I can successfully fire the cash drawer and send data to the printer, so from that side comms seem ok.

I then setup a Cash Drawer in POS Configurator > Devices > User Workstations > Peripherals - Cash Drawer 1, OPOS Connection, Device Name = Standard as per OPOS device naming. After testing, the Cash Drawer fires, but I cannot then use the OPOS software to interact with the drawer or printer as they appear locked by the RES 3700 app...

Finally I setup a printer in Devices > Devices, Roll Printer, OPOS Interface type, OPOS Receipt Printer Type, OPOS Device Name = TM-T88IV as per OPOS device naming...

BUT the printer will not work with, states Printer Communications Failure...

Any ideas? thanks in advance.

OPS and the Micros Print Controller Service will seize any OPOS devices programmed after the first use.

If Setup OPOS CheckHealth Interactive succeeds on the printer, make sure the name of the LDN you set up in the Setup OPOS software (right-hand pane when you select the printer model) matches the LDN name you are putting into POS Configurator on the Printer Interface tab. That's the #1 issue I've seen with OPOS printer setups. If it prints a little slow, you may need to check "Assume Print Job Complete when Data Output Finishes" in the Device Specific Settings in Setup OPOS.

As a side note, OPOS is so worth it on POSReady2009 workstations with serial printers. Kills the lag and makes them as fast as IDN printers when you send data in chunks of 6-10 lines at a time.

Thanks hosehead78 for taking the time to reply, unfortunately not quite what I need this time.

Hi DJensen999, this is a strange one, I un-installed the OPOS software, then re-installed. Just adding a POSPrinter to start with, COM1 with default settings, no LDN assigned.
Went into POS Configurator and set OPOS printer with name to match TM-T88IV, then tested OPS on the PC, it printed checks fine.
I then closed OPS, added a Cash Drawer within the OPOS software with no LDN, and linked it to the same COM port as the printer. OPOS CheckHealth forces Cash Drawer to fire, and Printer also works...
Then I reopened OPS, Cash Drawer fires, but Coms Failure to printer... I have tried rebooting, no joy, tried assigning LDN's the same as the device names (TM-T88IV for the printer) and (Standard for the Cash Drawer) no joy.

It almost seems as though the OPOS software knows how to communicate to both devices via COM1, but 3700 OPS can only speak to one at a time, not both..

Any ideas guys?

Thanks.

Ah, I see now. I missed the part about the RJ11 drawer kick. We're using the DIN type cash drawer connections here.

You might be able to get both working by unchecking "Do not release printer at end of print job" on the 3700 Devices -> Printer Interface tab, and making sure "Do Not Share Device" is not checked in the Cash Drawer settings under the Workstation Peripherals page. Past that, it may be a bug...

Thanks DJensen999, have checked these settings but still isn't playing game... [sadeyes]

Has anyone else out there ever had to configure RES 3700 on a PC to print to a Epson TM88 series printer and fire a cash drawer via it's RJ11 port???

It's more frustrating that the OPOS software can speak to both, but RES 3700 cannot do the same....

Hi All,

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but still having issues with this, and not getting very far with Micros Support at the moment...

Has anyone else out there managed to get an RJ11 Cash Drawer to piggy back/fire from a PC connected to a serial Epson TM-T88 IV Printer using OPOS drivers????

Thanks...
