Hi all,

I've seen many sites that are listed in directories that requires a link back(of course the requirement is that the link has to be "visible")but how come I cannot find where they put the link?? And if the link is not visible why would the directories list them? Can someone please shed some light?

Thanks!

Hi virt2002,

Thanks for your reply! My site is already listed in Google, I'm just thinking of ways to promote my site right now, but when I look at the shopping directories(not google) guidelines, many of them requires a link back, well I look at the sites listed in the directory none of them has a link back to that particular directory... Or am I missing something you are trying to tell me? Please advice.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the sites that are linking back to the directory of which you speak.

I am sure if the sites doing the listings require a link back check to see if the sites they are linking are linked back to them. Maybe you didn't look through the directory listed site well enough to find there links page.

Not sure.

You would have to post the sites in which you speak of to determine that.

Visible to a search engine?

Flash linsk aren't
javascript links aren't
links on link pages, that can not be navigated to by clicking on other links aren't

Maybe the sites in question haven't posted a visible link - on the (probably valid) assumption that the directory isn't going to check up on them. Maybe they had one for a week or two after getting listed, then removed it. Or maybe they've put one on an obscure page that a spider would find but a human might not happen upon.

List with directories if you want to. Include a link if you think their site is worth linking to. Don't feel pressured to put such links in prominent places or use big banner images - directories aren't that important.
