Requirements for a dedicated domain account to run jobs and SSIS packages in them

I want to create a dedicated domain account to assign to the services for running jobs and SSIS packages in Configuration Manager. Can someone point me towards some guidance on what permissions and roles the account would need on the server machine, SQL Server overall and each database it accesses?

IF you mean you are using a proxy account - then it should just need whatever rights the package requires. Its not package specific.

If you are talking about the SQL Agent Service account then microsoft explain it quite well:

I would personally create an account to run the SQL agent service as this account requires it to be sysadmin.

Then create proxy accounts in SQL so that the account that the SQL agent job runs with can have reduced permissions.

Thanks for the pointer on the security design information.

re your Dijkstra quote - One of my uncles (Donald H. Thurnau) was Dijkstra's host and driver while he was travelling around the US lecturing many years ago. My uncle always referred to Computing Science, not Computer Science, as he said that Dijkstra said that calling it Computer Science was like calling surgery Knife Science.

Very interesting on the Dijkstra quote.

Its very odd as he seems to always quote this a Computer Science.
