A customer has called inquiring about IVR on their IP Office system. It's a 406v2 with an Analog line 16, Digital 30 v2, Digital 16 v2 and a Phone 16. It's currently running Release 4.2.23 and has 4 ports of VMPro.

I just became aware of the End of Sale of the license I need and of how Avaya has changed the licensing process.

So, the question is what steps will be required to implement IVR on this system? An upgrade to 5.0 or 6.0? An Advanced Edition License?

I expected the database integration to be the big headache and now this! Please advise

Check the knowledge base. Licenses are explained in great detail. You will need to register and login.

That's a "non answer" answer if ever I heard one. I'm a former ACA for IP Office and have been working with it since the beginning. The Avaya Knowledge base is precisely why techs like me ask questions here. I'm very tired of the so called knowledge base wasting my time with it's lame search engine. Google works faster then that Knowledge base junk but it's coming up dry for the specifics I need.

So, I'll ask it again differently this time. How does one put an Advanced Edition license on a 406v2 system that already has VMPro installed? Are we forced to upgrade the system software because 4.2 maybe won't recognize Advanced Edition? I could guess all day. Perhaps they sell you a SD card for the slot on the front of the 406v2 with the license on it, or maybe they send you a file that matches your USB dongle number. Maybe they force you to upgrade your hardware.

I don't know, which is why I came here for answers, not referrals to Avaya's marketing tools.

Upgrade the system to 6.1 and buy the advanced licence, it's not that much more than the database integration licence was, are you sure it's EOS? :)

Thank you amriddle01. It is a USB dongle. Avaya has just screwed my customer with their R6 nonsense. Is there a way to exchange a USB dongle for a Serial port version and maintain the same license?

On the good side, I have found 1 and only one pre EOS IVR license. I'll snatch that one up while I can.

Thanks again amriddle01.

yes you can have your distributor swap licenses from USB to serial if needed.

Thanks all for the responses.

@kwing112000 - Yes, I've just found one vendor, and I'm sure there are more, with dongle exchanges available for which I'm very grateful. The key server thing has caused me much grief over the years.

@hairlessupportmonkey - Yes, I read that, and the 5.0 version too. No where in the document you linked is the 406v2 ever even mentioned. It's as if the IP Office world started with the IP500 control unit, which is what caused my problem and questions. I don't deal in IP500 equipment if I can avoid it. My customers and I are very happy with 406v2s and 4.2.23 thank you very much.

In any case, I think I'll be able to get this customer in under the wire with the older license and save them some money and myself some trouble. If not, I now know the steps to take with putting Advanced Edition onto a 406v2.

Thanks again everyone for your responses.

Life goes on so does Avaya.
They are end of sale just like the USB, parallel and serial dongles.
The document is not related to a certain IPO unit.
You respond a bit flamable while we are trying to help you.
If you do not want to hear answers then don't ask questions.
When you do want to hear the answers then be a little bit more gentle :)

Avaya changed the licensing a while ago and that is how it is, there is nothing you or we can do about it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Personally, I am tired of people not reading the documentation. The knowledge base is a lot better than it was, even a year ago. I am sorry if you didn't like my "non-answer". I was trying to point you in the right direction without doing the homework for you. If you don't want to keep up on the technology, get out of the industry. I see help wanted signs in gas stations all the time.

I am glad you looked for answers before you got yourself into a heap of trouble and gave the system you administer a bad name, but you could be a little more polite when people who have no clue who you are are trying to help.

And thanks to the guys who backed me up, and props to amriddle01 for either knowing his stuff, or looking it up on the knowledgebase.

I learn lots trying to answer questions on here. I just read the help file or the KB ;-) - all in the aid of cheap pink love!
