Requesting data from MS Exchange server

I am running MS Exchange Server 5.5 with MS Outlook 2002 as the client software. At times, when I try sending mails with attachments it gives me the message "Outlook is retieving data from the Exchange server. You can cancel the request or minimise this message ... until Outlook closes the message automatically."
If I cancel the request, I can't send or save the message.

Anyone with an idea what is causing this? It is driving some guys crazy down here.

One thing you may want to check is your AV s/w, both on the client and the server, vis-a-vis background scanning and real-time options.

We are also having this problem with Outlook 2002 clients (and Exchange Server 5.5). We use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition. Any suggestions about how to set scanning options to avoid this problem would be much appreciated.

Another strange thing that we've observed is that administrative type messages (Inbound Mail Failure, Mailbox Over Limit, etc.) are being retrieved from the Exchange Server at our parent company. This is really confusing since our e-mail from the internet is not routed through that server (though we are in the same organizational structure).

We use CA Inoculateit, but I think the processes monitored would be the same:

EMSDATA.EXE
ESEUTIL.EXE
EXMGMT.EXE
MSACHECK.EXE
STORE.EXE
ISINTEG.EXE
MSACHECK.EXE
MTACHECK.EXE
SRSMAIN.EXE

I got this list from a KB article, but can't find it. I did find these 2 that also address this problem:
