Does any software exist for automating processes in Windows 95/98. We have users who must perform routine, repetitive tasks each day because there's currently no way to do them without human intervention. For example, one user must ftp a file to his desktop (from a Unix server) every day, which requires him to be at his desk at 16:00 daily, start ftp, make the connection, and get the file. A very rote process that, theoretically, would be best to automate.
I recall that, quite a few years ago, Windows 3.X had a facility for recording keystrokes and saving them in a file so that the could be executed in the future. That functionality either does not exist in Windows 9X or wasn't installed on our PCs. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Ok- I hope this, at least, gets the ball rolling--
but you can run a batch file in task scheduler to this end. First you need to create a document in note pad and type in the text commands required to run your ftp from the Unix machine. perhaps you can execute this by typing in the executable for your connection also. I know that I can configure my dial-up to logon to the internet by just executing my icon. Now save it and rename it by changing the extension- .txt to .bat
go to task scheduler and add scheduled task. browse to your new file and follow the instructions to schedule. test this process first before implementing. let me know if this points you in the right direction. or someone make sure the process is correct- add/delete/etc...
Turned out that I didn't have the task scheduler installed, but found the CD and loaded it. From there on, it was smooth sailing. Thanks again!

Hello,

In the same idea, I would need to be able to automatically shutdown windows in the evening, after I've left the office.
At least, I would like to log off Microsoft Networking. The reason is that I have scheduled tasks running in the evening and in the morning, when I log on to the network. The PC then needs to be stopped when I come in in the morning. Can anyone help on identifying the executables that are used for logoff and shutdown Windows98 ?

Thanks

Olivier
