I know a company who wanted to advertise its products through forwarding email.

So I asked them how do you search this email, and they said from the web and other ways.. so then I asked him isn't this spam?

So he said , oh we know about the spam thing. So first thing first we send them an email introducing ourselves and asking them whether we can send more emails about the product..

But in my head I was like "So that first email you sent me ... wouldn't that be spam?"

So is it spam or not spam? Can you actually ask permission through the email? It's not like I subscribed in the web. But they're offering me to subscribe by email.

I'm not sure whether they're using random generated emails like most spammers

Hi,

Definition: (spam)

Un-solicited bulk mail.

- did you ask this person to send you the info
- are you expecting this info
- did you sign up for a newsletter/mailing list on a website

Whether they are asking permission or not, they didn't ask permission to send the permission email. It's a catch 22 pretty much. If someone does not ask to be emailed regarding a service of product, then the email is un-solicited a.k.a. - SPAM, and the chances of the email being blocked and deleted without being read is highly likely.

Solution - have a link on their website giving people their own opportunity to sign up for info. (Let's just hope someone doesn't know your email address and sign up for you).

Hope this helps!
