Hi, I'm working on a site and would apprecitate a little critique. The biggest problem I have is the load time. It takes a looooong time to load on a dial-up! Please note the wording is not mine, it is the clients', I think it's a little lame but it's what they want. Here is the temp link: Thanks all,

If this is all contained but in one movie (not using external .swfs for each section outside of the main interface), and you want to accelerate the loading time (BTW, fast and no problem on my cable connection), you could seperate each section into external movies that are only loaded on demand. Thus you'd get your main navigation interface up faster on slow connections.

oldnewbie, thanks for your time. The navigation movie loads first and then the other movies("home", "about", "work", etc) are loaded inside of it when a link is clicked. I think that the reason that it takes so long on a slow connection (about 18 seconds) is because the background is so big and I had to embed some fonts (again, clients' request). When I optimize the background the client complains that it is pixelated, same as the picture on the "about" page. The background is a bmp that I convert to a symbol, should I try making it a jpg or something, would I still have the pixelation problem?
Thanks again, I've followed your posts for a while now and like your style!

you got a decent site up, I had no loading issues with my cable connection, some suggestions I have:

:::: add a preloader (for those less fortunate dial up users),
:::: watch your transitions. each movie starts with the same type of transition (speed, layout, the way the words fly in). Those type of transitions are very basic. Try using alpha, scale, rotation to make it interesting. some speed variation maybe.
:::: sorry if i was a little rough, even if it were perfect i'm always critical. there's always room for improvement...

Thanks DGTLguy, I appreciate the input.
I'm working on adding a preloader and finishing the rest of the site. I agree that a little more variety is needed, I think that altering some of the transition speeds and adding some rotation is a good idea.
Thanks,

Transitions are way to slow. I'm on a p4 2g with 1g of ram so I know it's not my box.

You need to up the framerate of the movie to somewhere around 50 or 60 frames per second. Then adjust your tweens to re-accomodate for the new framerate.

Would look alot better with faster transitions.

Thanks virt2002, I'll try that and have the client take a look.
I've always felt that things moved too slowly too, but I thought it was because I anticipated the movements. It's great to get another view.
Thanks,
