Hi group,

I'm looking for a way to represent the following data:

Customers fall into one of 4 groups:
* registered not shopped
* placed < 5 orders
* placed > 5 orders
* lapsed (not placed an order for 1 month)

Each week we are interested in the movement of customers between these classifications.

I currently produce a cumbersome excel spreadsheet with graphs/pie charts, with labeled arrows between the elements indicating movement of customers. It looks terrible.

Can anyone suggest a better way to (ideally graphically) represent the weekly movement of customers between clasifications?

Thanks in advance,

Edward

Why not have a customer status table.

CustomerStatusTable
CustomerID
Week
Status

This tracks each customer's status each week.

You can now track each customer and group customers by attributes in their customer record.

You can also pull out status counts per week.

This little table (along with any additional attributes from the customer) can be stored in a cube structure for very easy reporting and graphics.

What about a table with 4 cells per side? The left side of the table represents last month, while the top represents this month. There is one cell for each state (1. "registered not shopped", 2. "placed < 5 orders", 3. "placed > 5 orders", 4. "lapsed (not placed an order for 1 month))", and the interior cells of the table represent counts (or proportions) of customers which moved from the side label to the top label.
