Hi all,

This is a problem that's been bugging me since starting to use Paradox.

I have designed many reports, most of which I want the user to view before printing them off. However, when viewing alot of my forms, random pieces of information dissappear, even though they appear on the printouts ....(I'm using Paradox 8)

Also, objects that I place on a report, sometimes look fine on the screen, but when it comes to printing them they come out in totally different places. This is leading to one very frustrated user!!!

Can anyone make any suggestions?

Thanks,

Woody.

Woody,

The random pieces of information suggest you have one or more corrupted tables and/or indexes. Use Tools | utilities | Table Repair to verify your tables and then rebuild the affected ones as needed.

Now, as far as "pinning" objects to specific places on report, it's important to remember that Paradox will try to close up empty white space in reports. That is, if there's no data to print, Paradox will generally trying to avoid printing anything.

Thus, it's frequently useful to verify that there's data to print--especially when letting the user enter query criteria at runtime. This is why the example articles on my site use the TCursor variant of executeQBE and executeSQL. Those articles test the number of records returned by the query. If nothing's return, a message is displayed to the user and the print requent is cancelled.

Now, you can force Paradox to print a minimum amount of space in a band by adding lines and other graphic elements. To keep these from appearing on the final report, set their color to white.

Hope this helps...
