Hello,

I am using Cognos ReportNet v1.1. I am building a report that has 7 columns. I sort on column 3, then hide the column using the Box Type=None. I total on Column 7. The problem is that the total still appears in Column 7. The report now only has 6 columns. It is not moving to the left when I hide column 3. Does anyone know how to keep the total under the column it is totalling?

Thanks

Try 'cutting' the column from the report after the sort has been applied. This should leave the query intact, but not inlcude it in the report.

flex13 is right, you want to include column3 in the query and sort by it, but do not include it in the list. I haven't found a way around the totals moving over when hiding a column.

However, I wanted to add a tip that has helped me a lot. Under Tools --> Options, de-select "Delete Unreferenced Query Objects." In this example, if you were to delete the column from the list, the corresponding query item would not be deleted. Prior to finding this, I was often accidentally deleting calculated columns from queries. This has saved me a lot of grief.

Flex13 and Stacy,

Thanks for your help.

Stacy, re-read Flex13's reply. His idea worked. It's like you're going to cut and paste the column. However, you just cut and never paste. This kept the Total field in sync with the column.

p.s. Now I just have to figure out a way to "uncut" the column if I ever want to re-display the column.
