ReportNet --> ReportStudio Prompting Problems

Hi,

My ReportNet problems continue....I have created a report that includes 5 columns. I want to prompt the user on 3 of these fields. I've created 3 separate prompt pages (one for each field to select values to filter on). Each prompt (they are all a checkbox list) was created using the ReportStudio wizard.

When I go to run the report, I can select values for the first prompt (a year filter) and it works OK. But the 2nd & 3rd prompts (a department filter and a status filter), I select the values I want, click finish, and a reportnet generated page comes up asking me to supply values for the department and status prompts even though I have already done so.

Does anyone have any ideas what the hell is going on here? I've checked my queries, parameters, prompt properties etc, and it all appears to make sense to me, but obviously there is something I have overlooked.....

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
J

this is because in the Filtering (in Query, see in Tabular Mode), you are using some other parameter name. Say for example, in the filter u are using DeptCode as parameter and in your prompt page, you use DepCode, Actually the page you designed prompts for DepCode and report required DeptCode to run report and hence it asks the value for the missing prompt value. Just check, its surely not a product bug, a typo. make sure that u got parameter names in prompts and in the filter and/or all references got the same name.

Sudhi,

I've checked the filters in the query and they are using the correct parameter names. The first prompt (the one that works) uses the same column as the display value, but the 2nd and 3rd prompts use one value to filter on and another value to display (ie. filter the report on codes, but display their descriptions in the prompts). I have a prompt page which displays the selected values to filter on from the prompts, and this all looks OK (ie. the codes are being selected instead of the descriptions), but then when I click finish, I am being re-prompted.

In the tabular model of the query when I look at the filter values, im definitely specifying to filter the query on the codes columns using the codes contained in the parameter).

This is why im so confused as to why I am being re-prompted.

the display and value can be different, that cannot be the reason for a generated prompt page. this happens only if u got a parameter not in the prompt page but in the query/filter/selection fileds.

if u could not able to find the missing parameter then...
1. copy the report source to any text editor
2. search for the string ? (question mark)
3. u get the parameter names used in the query/others
4. note down the names used there
5. search for the string "Parameter="
6. take the value next to the seach string (name of the parameter ins the prompt page)
6. compare the first search results with second

method 2 (easy method!!):
1. go to ur report design page
2. drag a page number control from the toolbox
3. edit the properties of the control
4. in the properties, select Parameters tab
5. look for a new parameter there!

good luck
