I have a problem installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on our test server, every componant except Reporting Services installs ok.
The error message I get is below, the log file it refers to is huge so i'm not sure what to look for;
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services - Update 'Service Pack 2 for SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 ENU (KB921896)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\RS9_Hotfix_KB921896_sqlrun_rs.msp.log.
When I run the setup it installs every componant on the Instance MSSQLSERVER but wants to install Reporting Services on an instance called WLNS31/ReportServer (WLNS31 is the server name).
I'm wondering if this is the problem. There is currently no other SQL Server instances on this machine and Reporting Services is on MSSQLSERVER, however I think that when Reporting Services was originally installed for evaluation purposes a long time ago it may have been installed on a seperate instance.
If the setup program is picking up a pointer to an old instance somewhere any idea where I can find and fix this? Or if this is not the problem what else can I do to solve it?
Thanks.
Bruce
