Report with Hotfile fails when a summary filter is applied

Hello, I am trying to write an impromptu report (7.3) which uses a hotfile which is defined in the catalogue. The hotfile is joined to a database table, but when I apply a summary filter, (a count in the footer), the report comes back blank.

Has anybody else had a problem when using a summary filter with a hotfile.
