Report Viewer 2005 and Reporting Services 2008

Hi,

I am about to create some reports using SQL Server BI Development Studio 2008 on a 2008 SQL Server database - the remote report server will be using its own web server (not IIS that comes with the O/S).

I currently have Visual Studio 2005 - can I use the Report Viewer that ships with VS 2005 to view reports in remote mode on the SSRS 2008 server or do I need to upgrade to Visual Studio 2008?

I'm not 100% sure, but even using 2008, I believe the ReportViewer control is the 2005 model. I have tried the ReportViewer control in Visual Studio 2008 against an SSRS 2008 report hosted in SharePoint. It worked fine except that when I set the parameter values from code, drill-throughs to other reports would not function. So the best thing you can do is try it out, and note that more than likely there will be some shortcomings.

As our procurement/licensing process is a nightmare, i just wanted to check in advance as i am not in a position to start creating any reports yet. I didn't want to get to that stage and then waste time waiting for VS 2008.

I have been using the ReportViewerControl as part of ASP.NET applications and I can confirm that it is still the 2005 version that is referenced even though we are on 2008
