I need a report to summarize the number of people within an application period, by application period, and that I have accomplished using a footer for application period and the count command.

But now I need to summarize the number of people within an application period, by application period, for a particular state (entered by the user). Then I also need to get the percentage of the number of people in the state vs the total number of people within an application period. I can't seem to get a dcount statement to work on the report so that it summarizes within application period.

Thanks for any help sent my way!

Explain what you've got so far...the DCount will just be where application period = whatever and where state = something you put in. Need more info to help you out...mainly your current DCount formula.

On your report 'group by' footers, if you define a new unbound text control, and set its controlsource to:

=Count([GroupByfieldname])

or even

=Count(*)

You should be able to get a count of the number of records that appear in that 'group by' band. Note that the Count function is working off the report's recordset, and in particular off the data which is incorporated into the Group By band that its associated with. In this situation it may be more appropriate and more efficitient to use than the DCount function, which goes back to its referenced domain, and does not work in the context of the report, other than in the sense that you can control this via the functions criteria.

Hope this helps and makes sense to you, Steve Lewy
