Report Studio : Configuring data sources

Hi,

Since we are new to Cognos. We need information on how we can configure datasources for different environments.

For example, we have reports in QA environment that uses a certain package which connects to QA database.

Once the reports were tested, the package and the reports are moved to production environment.

Since the package is pointing to QA database. How can we make it work changing to production database?? Please advice Cognos experts.

The data source is defined independently from the package and reports, so you will be able to achieve the result you require quite easily.

In this case, when you create your deployment on the QA system for your package and reports (either Tools/Deployment from Cognos connection in ReportNet, or Tools/Content Administration from Cognos Connection in Cognos 8), do not include the data source connections.

On your Production system, import the deployment, then go to Tools/Directory, and define a data source with the same name as the one on your QA system, but pointing to your production database instead.
