I have a sales report that I need to sort by the footer. What I am doing is pulling the memberid field, the total sales field and a calculated field (=sum([total])) from the detail box down to the footer, and putting the footer box and detail box adjacent to one another, this results in all sales being added up and reported onto one line. Problem is I can't get the thing to sort by the lookup I have for the memberid. Memberid is a number right now, I want to sort by last name, first name. I was reading earlier posts, some suggest that this can't be done in a report, any other suggestions? Driving me crazy..Thanks.

Hi, if you're not interested in seeing detail, put your fields in the footer & use the reports sorting and grouping options to sort the report. If you want to sort by last name, bring that in too and set the control source to invisible if you wish to see the ID only & then sort on last name.

If that is what you're after that should work. If not, a subreport might work for what you have in mind.

Hope that helps.

I am having trouble visualizing what you are attempting. It would make a lot of difference if you would provide a more exact description and possibly some sample records.

I would recommend that you create a totals query and add it to the Record Source query of your report. You can then sort by the total.

I have 2 tables, customerpayments & customer. Salespeople are also in the customer table, and all customers have a unique id, memberid. A query is done for all payments associated with members, which is then pulled up in a report. I also have a lookup associated with the memberid which pulls the lastname, firstname. The resulting report pulls all the data and sorts by memberid, but not by the lookup values, only by the numbers themselves. So what is happening is that any new members added (the unique ids were created based on a last name alpha sort long ago) show up at the end of the report, in memberid numerical order. I am trying to get the report to sort by the lookup associated to the memberid, namely, lastname.

Just include the lookup table in the report's record source query. You can then add the appropriate fields to the grid to allow sorting.
