I am creating runtime web based Crystal Reports using V10. My database is not onsite and is Java based. I am using MySQL as my connection to the database. In my option a very bad database design I might add, it has no indexes that I can use to search on. My question is this, what exactly does verify on first refresh do for me? It seems to take longer to generate a report if I have verify on first refresh and verify stored procedure selected, however I need to make sure that the data the user sees when generating the reports are current information. What exactly does verify on first refresh do for me.

Thanks for any insight in this setting

The different Verify commands test the integrity of the fields in the report against the tables/procedures in the current data source. If a field that the report is expecting no longer exists in the table, then the verification process will pick that up. Because it has to go through the extra step of comparing the fields that were in the table the last time it was saved to the current table structure, you're getting the lag time. Unless you think the db structure has changed, I'd uncheck those options.

If you want the data to be refreshed, just make sure that the 'Save Data with Report' option on the File menu isn't checked when you save the report. That should ensure the report connecting to the db and refreshing the data.

thanks so much, some day someone is going to write product documentation that actually documents the product. I have two books on crystal and neither one had an explanation.
