i am stuggling with scr 7as follows
have to files (native data) stock
and plhist

i want to select the certain records
from stock ie part.stock
that do not have an entry
in plhist....tried count part.plhist
(hoping to select where count is
zero) but seems to return full record
count of the plhist file

struggling from manchester

After linking the files, put something similar to the following in your record selection formula:

IsNull({plhist.stock})

This tecnique works best when plhist.stock is a required field in the second database. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

will try your suggestions

key problem is that I want to select
records from file one stock.part

based on items that do not have an
entry under in file two plhist.part

i am trying to report on new purchases
and avoid reporting on repeat items

hope this clarifies
thanks for your input
x-)

I understood the first time. Please use the isnull() function as I suggested and post back with your results. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

using isnull()on plhist.part
gives me no records at all

the other rub is I have to
link from plhist to stock
and not the other way because
i get invalid file link
not consecutive index fields

tried to count plhist.part but
this gives a total record count
not a count where stock.part is
equal to plhist.part

is this getting any clearer!!!

Write a simple, two column report, with an equal join on your files. The two columns are:

stock.part plhist.part

Then sort the report by plhist.part. Any nulls should come up first.
