report not showing field background colours-help

I have a report made up of 3 sub reports. Each of the sub report has one database fld displayed as 5 columns and the data is displayed 'across and then down'....i have coded change of background color of each field seperately depending on value in another fld(which is hidden in the sub report). The code is written in 'Format' of detail band. It works fine for sub report1, but same does does not work for sub report 2 or 3 which has same format but the field holds differnt values. Any idea why?

Make sure the backgrounds are not set to transparent.
