Hi,
Altho' we have a license installed for Crystal Report Modification in our XI CMC, I can't seem to find out how to activate/use it..In v10's ePortfiolio there was a button for 'New Report', but I cannot find anything like that in InfoView..

What am I missing here??

Thanks..

Turkbear,

The old "new report" "wizard" does not exist any more.

Have you installed Crystal Reports Explorer?

This will add two items to the "New" dropdown in Infoview, being "Crystal Report" and "Report Data Source". You will then also see a "modify" action for all existing reports that a user has sufficient rights. Each of these options will launch CRE.

The catch is, like in CE9 & 10 that these options appear for all users. There is no ability to assign rights to these (and a number of other options) within Infoview. In CE9 I was able to add some extra code to ePortfolio to control whether a user saw these options by putting in a check for membership of a specific group.

With Infoview that is not so easy or even possible any more as Infoview is ultimately a compiled application. There is even a specific kb c2017492 saying that "Starting with BusinessObjects XI, code-level customization of InfoView and the other applications included with BusinessObjects XI is not supported and not recommended. These applications include Crystal Reports Explorer and the Central Management Console.

InfoView is a fully-featured product and can be customized by changing settings in the Central Management Console or by changing values in the application configuration files only."

BO had advised me that any changes to Infoview would require consulting services, a path that I did not want to go down.

So, to control who can create a new Crystal Report via Infoview CRE, I have disabled the two options under the "new" pull down menu after receiving instructions from BO Tech Support on this. To do this backup and then change Web Content\Enterprise11\appplugins\Webdesktop\plugins\CrystalEnterprise.Report.xml Comment out section for "create……<path>adhoc/adhoc.aspx…." (You'll need to look at this carefully as the code layout needs tidying up).

Then to control who can create a new report, I only allow this via an application separate to Infoview. In that application I check for membership of the required group and then make a link available to '/businessobjects/enterprise11/adhoc/mainframes.csp?isAdmin=false&mode=createAdHoc&fromeportfolio=true'

Alternatively, if you are happy for all users to see the option to create a new crystal report, leave it in the CrystalEnterprise.Report.xml and only remove the option to create datasources. Then if a user has not had permissions set to the options within CRE via the CMC \ BusinessObjects Enterprise Applications \ Crystal Reports Explorer, they will just see an empty shell when CRE launches.

Maybe all of this will be sorted out with XIR2 but as yet there is not enough detail on the BO web site to know.

Hope this helps.

Malcolm.

Hi,
OK I found the download area with that product ( I don't rememeber using it for our CE10 setup) ( then again I don't remember many, many things [dazed]) ..

It was under the CE Premium section ( although, with the add-on license, it should work with CE Professional)..

I assume the CE10 version is OK with XI?

Thanks for the info..
