I have a report with a text box whose control source is a memo field. No matter where I place it, and no matter how big I make it, it will only display about half of the data.

I have run the query that controls the report and have verified all the data is present. I have the 'Can Grow' property set to 'Yes'.

Is there a property I am missing that would cause the data to be cut off?

Here is the text that displays:

*Delete 1 vanity from Master Bath (close to Master Tub) to create a make-up desk
*10x50 Hy-Lite Window goes into Basement Bath Stub Area per Drawing
*Full Bath Rough- See Drawing for Basement bath Rough and Window
*Seat in shower in Master Bathroom (Ma

Here is what it should be:

*Delete 1 vanity from Master Bath (close to Master Tub) to create a make-up desk
*10x50 Hy-Lite Window goes into Basement Bath Stub Area per Drawing
*Full Bath Rough- See Drawing for Basement bath Rough and Window
*Seat in shower in Master Bathroom (Main Level)
*Add 9 can lights to basement, with 3 separate light switches (see drawing) located directly at bottom of stairs.
*Add 8 lb pad to basement only, 6lb in the rest of the house
*Add Range Hood (white RH2330XJQ) ILO Microwave above Range

As you can see, it cuts it off right in the middle of everything - for no reason that I can tell.

Help!!! Thanks in advance.

Check the table field is a memo and not text. text limits to 255 characters, memos 65535.

But only one way to get it RIGHT!

Thanks Ian.

My table field is set to 'Memo'. The interesting thing is that the query that controls my Report displays all the data in the 'Notes' field of my query.

That is why I have concluded that it must be a setting in my report.

The field on the report is a simple text box that is set to 'Can Grow'. Whether I place it in the Report Header, Page Header, Details, or wherever, it still only displays text up to "(Ma"!

Here's another interesting thing. I deleted "(Main Level)" from my notes, and the Report text box then displayed:

*Seat in shower in Master Bathroom
*

It is almost as if my text box is only allowing a certain number of characters and nothing more. I am not aware of a property in a Report control that would limit the number of characters. Isn't that simply derived from the Data Type of the Table field?

There has to be something I am missing here. I tried re-typing the list and placing it on a blank report. I added and removed characters. Each time, the text cut off at about the same point!

Is there a setting in the report that limits the number of characters that a text box can display?

Make sure there is no format property set on the text box control. Also, is the text box in a header or footer section?

Thanks for your help Duane.

I figured it out from a post on another site. My problem was that my query had a SELECT DISTINCT statement. For some reason, Access truncates a Memo field to 255 characters.

I removed the DISTINCT, and it worked like a charm!

Thanks again.

If you had "SELECT DISTINCT" then your previous statements should not have been correct
...verified all the data is present...
...that the query that controls my Report displays all the data in the 'Notes' field of my query.

Several of us would have probably found this issue immediately if you would have either provided the SQL view of your query or stated the memo field was truncated in the datasheet view of the report's record source.

Thanks jt463

I had the exact same problem - and I used a SELECT DISTINCT, when I changed to SELECT DISTINCTROW it works
wonderful and all characters show up.
