Does anyone know the object limits on the access report?
I have a report that says that I cannot create anymore
objects. How can I add a second page the report other than using the page break. This report is 3 pages long using the page break, if there is another way feel free to advise.

thanks in advance

Directly out of HELP, it says this about forms and reports.

Number of controls and sections you can add over the lifetime of the form or report..... 754

If you change the report a lot, I suppose it's possible to hit this ceiling. To see more specs, open help and on the Index page, type in
specification
then look for
Microsoft Access Specifications

It makes for some interesting reading.

I'm not sure you can add more pages without the pagebreak unless your data simply flows to a second page automatically. Sounds like there might be an issue if you haven't reached the controls limit mentioned above.

I've hit the controls limit alright!! I am somewhere close to 1000 controls. the odd thing is that when I hit the maximum control number it gave me a message saying that if I saved the report to another name then maybe I could add more controls. I've done it and it worked for a while but now I can't even export the report to another Database. which is really bugging the Tar out of me.

You might try importing all the objects into a new database and see if that makes any difference. Create the new database and on the menu bar go to Files...Get External Date...Import. In the import box, select all the objects from all the tabs and just import the entire thing into a new db. If it doesn't work, you can delete the new db, but it might give you new life.
Good luck.

1,000 controls suggests an un-normalized database but I could be wrong (been there many times). You can get around this limit usually by creating subreports with some of the controls.

how do i go about creating a sub report.
I'm new to access reporting and I am not sure on where to begin to start a sub- report. can you give me pointers ?
to answer your question of de-normalized database no it is not denormalized. it's structured properly it's just that the report contains 1 day of sale activity per column, and the report is for a week/period.

Marco

If you have a column that corresponds with a "day" of activity then I would consider this un-normalized. If this were the result of a crosstab query then possibly your tables are normalized and your resultset displays the non-normalized view of your tables.

A subreport is very similar to a subform. It is basically a standard report that is included in another report. You can set the Link Master/Child properties to limit the record(s) returned by the subreport.

Duane,
the information for the report comes from a daily_sales tbl. the way that I set the report layout is columnar so that I could get the same effect that I was getting in an Excel spreadsheet. My client didn't want to lose the look or feel of the Excel spreadsheet. that why I have the results from the qry in a "Day" columnar layout not a row layout.

Duane,
is there a way to change the way the report shows negatives in the textbox I perfer (5458)rather than
-5458 for negatives.

Marco,
Sorry for the late reply as I have been out of the country for 10 days on business. SuididED provided a good answer on the format question.

Regarding your "Excel" look and feel. I would not set up a structure based on look and feel. The look and feel can be manipulated to anything you want while leaving the tables normalized.
