Hello

I'm a newbie at the database / Access thing and would really appreciate some advice.

Having got to the point of having a database that seems to work - with multiple tables (fairly well normalised etc), lookup tables, forms to input the data and data, I am now onto the next phase - the report.

So far my report is based on my main table (sites) and has a couple of sub reports based on individual tables linked to the main one (e.g. environmental data, etc.) and it seems to be fine - however:

I canot get the report longer than 55.583cm! This is a bit of a problem. Either I am designing and putting the report together in a terribly inefficient way or this is a real limit to Access. If anyone can offer me any advice on how to deal with this apparent limit it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

There is a limit, which you have reached, to the length of the combined total of report sections. The section length represents one pass thru the section, which usually encompasses one record.

Normally the Detail section is designed to hold the data for a single record. With each new record the entire Detail section is repeated again. The report will increase in size for each record, but the section itself, as defined on the report design layout, has a limited size.

So the length of the report is not fixed, but the data height for each record is.

Hope that helps.

Jigjag, thanks I figured as much.

Have decided to go with path of least resistance and use what appears to be the simplest solution - split the report into two and somehow figure out what to do about the page numbers.

Hi

I know this might seem obvious, but if you are new to this ... have you realised that you do not need to make the sub reports, text boxes, etc actual depth, you can make them one line deep, then set the cangrow property to true

if this is insulting your inteligence ... sorry ...

Nope not insulting the intellignece, I thought of that but as I need to control the exact size of the report I opeted not to go that way. I am using data from two sources and not all the attributes are common to both. The report printed out for both has to be identical so I am using blank spacing to indicate zero value for a particular section.

thanks for the reply, have a good day.
