This is the first report I have ever created, so please bear with me if the answer to this question is obviously.

I have a report that displays a fairly complex dataset. Im having trouble setting up the report to display the data correctly. A portion of the report contains date, location, item, item number. This portion then leads to more information that I will call description. The description stuff is layed out in several sub reports.

The report is layed out with the following data

Date1 Location1 Item1 #1 description
Date1 Location1 Item1 #2 description
Date1 Location1 Item1 #3 description
Date1 Location2 Item1 #1 description
Date1 Location2 Item2 #1 description
Date1 Location2 Item2 #2 description
Date2 Location1 Item1 #1 description
Date2 Location2 Item1 #1 description

I would like something similar to:

Date1 Location1 Item1 #1 description
#2 description
#3 description
Location2 Item1 #1 description
Item2 #1 description
#2 description
Date2 Location1 Item1 #1 description
Location2 Item1 #1 description

I tried using the Hide duplicates feature with limited success. However, I do not want to hide duplicates if the text in the previous column is not a duplicate. For example if i use hide duplicates for the item, the text "item1" is not displayed for Date1, Location2.

Any direction, suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ed

Hi
Have you tried sorting and grouping levels, or have I missed your point? [ponder]
