Hello,

Has anyone experienced crystal automatically adding empty report headers / footers when reimporting a sub report?

i've noticed that everytime i reimport i get a new (one of each) empty header/footer. is there any solution? have i overlooked anything?/

thanks

mike

i would think that as long as you are importing something it will do this automatically...

i have a grip on the basics of subreports; but can you explain why you reimport the report each time instead of refreshing the main report?

well i havent been using crystal that long so i hope i'm doing it right..

i'm re-importing the subreports because i'm editing them to make sure my data is lined up (looking nice) with everything else..

i should clear up that the headers/footers are being added to the subreport not the main report.

thanks

i dont think you need to reimport it each time. once it is there it is saved as part of the main report. and whatever changes you made to it there are also saved inside that report. if i understand it correctly, each time you reimport the subreport it is like bringing in a new report each time...

i'm using cr 8.5, and dont know if its a bug or not.. the only way that the udated subreport comes across properly is if i edit it, save it, delete it from the main report, and then re-add and relink it to the main report.

a bit of a hassle, but something i can live with..

when you are editing and saving the subreport are you doing it seperately or are you editing/saving it within the main report? if you are editing and saving it from within the main report, when you resave the main report your changes to the subreport should be saved as well - the version of the subreport that is already linked.

i hope i am not completely confusing you.. let me give you an example

i have 1 particular subreport that reads times that are entered in for when a patient enters the operating room and when they leave the operating room. (they are entered seperately because of customizations we made - long story lol)

that is all this subreport does, and it is based on the casenumber assigned to that patient. i have used that subreport in several different main reports for different reasons... (some times concentrating on how long the patient is there in general, sometimes comparing them with smae procedures, another time with same surgeons...)

the point is i have the general layout saved as "or times subreport" whenever i need to, i pull it in to a main report and do whatever format changes etc that are needed so that it flows with the main report. those changes do not effect the general version - only the version that is linked to the main report... yours should be doing the same thing as i am using 8.5 as well...

hope i didnt completely confuse you...
