Hello,

I am currently using four text boxes that has the can grow/can shrink property enabled. This works fine, but when I add 4 more text boxes directly to the right of the original text boxes it messes up the spacing of the can grow/can shrink leaving undesirable spaces between the data.

The purpose of this report is that it is a letter, the 4 text boxes on the left are as follows: Name, Street Address1, Street Address2, City, State and Zip(city state and zip all in the same text box). The text boxes on the right are used for a return address, so I don't really have the option to remove either from the report. This is to see if I can avoid making a query to handle the data. If you have any suggestions on this please let me know, even if that suggestion is to give up.

Thanks all,

David

Hi Ant,

I assume that shrink/grow expands the whole width of the line in a report, so a column of fields on the right will be disrupted.

Not all fields on the left will need this property, so I think that it's down to moving the fields to look good.

Make all the textboxes on the left and right have the can grow/can shrink properties. If there's no address then there shouldn't be a return address either. Also make sure your fields are actually empty (= "").

All fields to the left or right of a can shrink field must also have can shrink, or the the field won't shrink. If there are any non-textboxes (labels) horizontally aligned with the textbox, the can shrink won't work either. (In that case try moving the labels up just enough so that the bottom of the label is higher than the top of the textbox.)

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, but I perhaps I wasnt clear enough in my explanation and that is my fault. With this report there will always be an address on it, and unfortunatley I am unable to move either the return address or the address itself. This is because the actual address need to fit in a window envelope, and the return address needs to be positioned as such because we have a logo that is already on the letterhead that we have ordered. The main thing is, is that the Street2 address is optional. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:
(Logo)
My Company
(Top of window) Company Add.
Name Company Dept
Street1 City State,Z
Street2 (optional)
City, State Zip
(Bottom of window)

And this is the outcome if the street2 is missing:

My Company
Company Add.
Name Company Dept
Street1 City State,Z
(wont shrink)
City, State Zip

I have a feeling that this probably won't work in such a way, so we are currently building a function to handle this. The reason why we will need to use a function instead of a query is because there will indeed be more fields added; up to 5 lines in the address for businesses. If any of you have any suggestions on the can grow can shrink property to make it work it would be much appreciated. And thanks again to those who replied to this post!

Thanks,

David
