A friend has sent me a question worth asking..
The issue is regarding Crystal Reports XI installed on our Windows Server 2008 64-bit server. We currently use Crystal's ActiveX interface to access the reports using our PHP based database interface tool. Everything works perfectly fine until the report loads and some subreports and graphics in the reports show as a "loading..." box and will not go any further. The data is queried since I can immediately export the report to a PDF and the data is fine.

How much data is in the report? This will affect load time.

Are you using "Page N of M", or "Total Page Count" in the report? If so, Crystal has to go through and render EVERY page, including all of the subreports, in order to determine how many pages there are before it will display. When you don't use these, the report will appear much more quickly because Crystal will just generate one page at a time.

Subreports also slow things down because a subreport's query will run EVERY time a subreport appears - the data is not cached between calls to the subreport.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.
