Hi,

I'm trying to find out the best way I can distribute a large number of reports to a customer, allowing him to view them without purchasing Crystal Reports. All the reports are designed in Version 8.

I have looked at using Seagate Analysis but to be honest this gives the end user alittle to much scope for change! The ideal tool I think would be something similar to the Info Viewer that comes bundled with Seagate Info. I have searched the Seagate website but can't find this application listed for download.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of this and is it free in the same way Seagate Analysis is?

I guess the other alternative would be to devolop are own in house VB application, but it seems pointless wasting time doing this if there are suibtable programs freely available already.

Any help/ pointers will be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Marc

See FAQ 4a on compiled reports. A bit of a pain to set up the first time but does pretty much what you need. Ken Hamady

Thanks for the suggestion, this is something I considered, but due to the fact I'm looking at integrating a number of reports into a Software package my company has developed I was looking for something similar to the Report Viewer that is distributed with Seagate Info.

If this is not possible then I guess we'll have to develop something in-house, that can be incorporated into our own software. I was hoping that Seagate Analysis would be the answer but this gives the end user just alittle to much scope to change the reports!

Thanks

Which functions of the viewer do you want to include that aren't part of the compiled report viewer?

A simple VB app shouldn't take too much time and you get to control which features are included.

On my web site I have a link to a third party product that (I think) might fit the bill but it isn't free.

Your right its not free, its $199.99 US per user!

The application I would want to create would be identical to the Report Viewer, allowing the user to apply a filter to the report, export the report etc.

Most importantly though it must be able to handle pre-selection criteria driven by parameters that the user selects at runtime. This is the most time consuming area I believe. Hence the search for something that has already been created!
