Report Distribution Expert not working

I am currently using CR8.5 and went to the crystal decisions website to get the download of the compile and distribution expert. The installation went smooth.

When I select the Compile Report option I get the proper screen and check "Distribute the Report after". After clicking on OK I get the error message that Report Distribution Export is not installed!

Yet I can select and run the "Report/Distribution Export" menu option and everything seems to work fine! I don't understand why I am getting this error message. Why are they not working together, as they should?

Crystal Decisions discontinued the Report Distribution Expert after Version 7. The uproar forced them to offer a downloadable add-in for Version 8.

It didn't work well with Version 8, and Crystal Decisions refused to provide any support for it. It works even less well with Version 8.5.

The distributed files for your report may require a .dll or driver that isn't permitted by the Distribution Expert. That causes it to throw out all sorts of error messages. I just gave up and stopped using it.

and see if that will work for what you are trying to do. Or buy George Peck's book on Crystal 8.5, and write your own VB front end.

I have never experienced any of the problems that Roz is talking about. I did experience exactly the same error as you, and I reinstalled the report distribution expert and have never had a problem since. I htink the culprit here is a registry key, but I am not sure.
