Report Distribution Expert Not installed

Hi there..

I need to compile a report to be run on a machine which has not got crystal reports installed. The target machine has Info 7, however I am compiling the report on my machine which has CR8 only. I have downloaded SCR8_distr_expert and installed.

Target machine aside, when i try to compile said report, I am given the message :

cannot distribute reports, Report Distribution Expert Not installed.

I have tried re-installing the expert but no joy. When I select the Report Distribution Expert from the Report menu, I can enter details in the 1.options but when i try to move to the next step, whether by next button or selecting the tab, An illegal operation (invalid page fault in module crpe32.dll) occurs and the application is shut down.

Can anyone advise me on how I can get this report compiled to run on the target machine?? (this is the first time i have tried to compile a report)

btw... Have just noted that this file is for use with dev edition and i have pro..

what can i do now?

Do to crystal decisions' website and download it. It is faily large, about 6 meg. I had to do the same thing. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Download what? I have already downloaded and installed the roport distribution and compiled report expert, but it is for use with developer edition. I have CR8 proffessional edition.

There is only one distribution expert. Crystal decided to stop distributing the distribution expert beginning with CR v8, regardless if it was std, pro or developer edition. Only the outcry of users, as I understrand it, made them put it on the web and available for download.

I purchased v8.5 of the developer edition and I downloaded this and it works great for me. I use it probably twice a week.

Ok.. bummer but as someone else said in this forum.. it is stated on the site that it is only for the developers edition now.

Looks like we "pro" users might be out of luck.

Tracey I apologize for misreading your post.

I do have one thing that MAY help. I had a client with DEVELOPER edition v8.5 getting the same error message as you. However, if he selected compile report from the report menu and then selected "compile report after" he did not get an error.

If he went straight to Report-Report Distribution expert, he got the message "Report distribution expert not installed".

Since he had a viable workaround he did not bother to chase the issue it with CD tech support.

Try this in CR Pro and let us know what happens.

Unfortunately this does not work for me. Once the report is compiled I am presented with the message:

Cannot distribute reports: The Report Distribution Expert is not installed.

(Assuming u meant "distribute reports after" checkbox)

Yes Tracey that is what I meant. I am at a loss at this point.

I would call Crystal and complain. Their KB articles swerve back and forth. This one says that ANY version of V8 can use the RDE (which we now know is not true).

The Report Distribution Expert will work with any edition of Crystal Reports 8 (Standard, Professional, or Developer)

I sent them a polite note... ;-)

i also found an "old" version (dated may 01) but there was no difference when i installed it.
