This is not something I do often, but I attempted to distribute a report in version 7 and got an error "report distribution expert not installed". I am sure I have done this before successfully.

This machine also has CR v8.5 on it.

Any ideas why this would happen or how to fix it short of a re-install? Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Multiple versions of CR on one machine are not recommended: all kinds of DLL conflicts can erupt...

CR pulled the Report Distribution Expert out of CR 8.x. It is now a download from the CR Files & Updates section. You can download it and see if it will fix your issue. Otherwise, reinstall it is.

FYI, I solved the multiple version issue by purchasing Partition Magic. I now have 4 separate bootable partitions on my notebook. I have varying versions of Crystal Reports, Seagate Info & Crystal Enterprise on different partitions + I have a beta partition for application testing.

Here are several solutions to running mutlple versions of CR on the same machine....

1) You can run CR8.0/8.5 and Seagate Info 7 Report Designer on the same machine. You must install SI7 after you've installed CR8 - handy if you want demo both systems - and SI7 includes the CR7 report designer.

2) I've got a dual boot machine - I installed Win98 on the C Drive and then W2k on the G drive. The Win98 machine has Cr7 (or any older version that you want) and the Win2k has CR8.5

3) Use partition magic and run seperate machines by breaking your hard drive and boot each partition seperately.

4) Use VMWare and run a virtual machine inside the other. A little slower but it behaves as a seperate machine. And on the network they look like seperate machines - this lets you run simultaneous machines. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear

Hi there ChelseaTech. Love your CR newsletter!

Quick Q's:

1. What kind of performance hit does VMWare Workstation take?
2. Does it run well on a 256 MB machine or do you need 512 MB?

Hi,

Just my 2 cents worth....

I've got both Seagate Info (with the report designer, Crystal 7.0) and Crystal 8.5 running on the same machine.

I installed 8.5 after Info and receive no conflicts, except if I try to launch 7.0 from witin Info while 8.5 is open on my task bar.

Seems if you keep the "Designers" away from one another, you won't have a problem....
