Hi,
I am trying to do the following in a report.

publication | name1 | name2 | name3 | (this continues on)
a1
a2
a3
e4
r5
e5
e43

The publications are in one table and the names are in another. Couldn't get a cross tab to work, The publication or name may fill more than one page also. I don't need any info under the names. It will be blank boxes were the person has to initial that they have read the publication.

Hi. "Couldn't get a crosstab to work"?? Without more explanation, we cannot see how it won't work.

What is your table structure, and what is your query SQL statement? Do ALL names from your Names table go into the report?

Maybe too you've read thru some posts here on Tek-Tips and see that you cannot put results of a crosstab query into a report very easily unless the column headings (in your case, Names) are static (they do not change, or if they do, you are willing to tweak the report every time a name is changed/added/deleted).

Thanks.

The Names column will change. Although not very often. The publication table has publication # and a distribution letter. The name table has name and distribution letter. Each name has publications linked to them. pub a1 could only have 3 names or it could have 20. So the names going across the top will/could change.

What is your query sql statement and table structure (table names, field names)? Plus some sample data. how are tables related? Please list your table structure like this:

Table Name: Pubs
Field: PubID (text)
Field: PubDesc (text)

etc

if diff number of people should review each publication, how does a person know which publication they should review? Is this what your data looks like:

publication | John | Margaret | Steve | Mark
a2 x x
a3 x
e4 x x
r5 x x
e5 x x
e43 x

There are a lot of posts that deal with this situation where the column count/headings could change. It's a little complicated to set up, but not impossible. If you list your table structure and some sample data, I can help you out.
