Report description field length

We are wanting to use the report description field to track all report modifications. We want to include what was changed, the author of the change and the change date. Do you know if there is a character limit to this field? I can not find anything about this in the documentation. I appreciate the help, thanks.

I don't know what the limit is but I would not use the Report Header for this purpose.

I would suggest though ... if you want to keep this info with the report itself ... that you create a "Version Control" formula that lies suppressed in the page footer

In crystal you can only display 254 characters in a formula but there are unlimited comment lines so this formula will consist of just comment lines and will look like this perhaps


// 2002/01/01 - JNB - Initial report creation
// 2002/01/05 - KNH - fixed bug in calculation formula
// for special case when X + Y

this field when placed on the form can be as small as you want...I would color code it for ease of identification

Just edit the formual when you want to update what has been done to the report.
