I'm looking to spruce up reports and am not sure if Access has the capibility to do it, or if there is a better alternative. This is kind of long and hard to explain, but I appreciate any help given.

I have a report that ouputs invoices and groups them by product, then by sales person. I know access can insert page breaks if the first/last line of the detail is not shown on the same page as the group header/footer.

But, lets say that the group is only 5 lines long, and there are 4 lines left on the page, I want it to insert a page break and put all 5 lines on the next page.

One way I thought of is to count the lines in the group, then count the lines left on the page, and try and work it from that angle. I heard that Access does not have the ability to count the totoal lines in the group until after the group is output. Is this correct, or do I need to investigate buying something more robust for the reports?

Thanks in advance for helping me on this.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, I'm working with Access 2000, possibly upgrading to 2003.

Thanks

on the grouping control, can you put "Keep together"? Seems like that would work out for you.

Thanks for the help Blorf, that did help... but lets see if I can complicate this as I ran into a small problem-

If I do as you advised, I sometimes will run into a problem of a big blank space at the bottom of a page. So, lets say a group is 30 lines long and 15 lines will fit on the page. I would like it to print the 15 lines and then continue on the next page, rather than leave a big blank space at the bottom and start on the next page.

Is this possible?

THanks for any input!

Well, yes it is possible, but I only know of two options, as listed above (Keep together), and turning of keep together and turning on repeat section for the group header.

The second fills up the whole page, but you are left with things starting on one, and ending on another.

You can righ click on the group header bar to get properties for the repeat section.

Maybe that will work for you.
