Replication - The process was succesfully stopped.

I've implemented transactional replication, I had a few teething problems so I used the validate subscriptions option to see if I could get more information about what was going wrong. Since I've implemented this the distribution agent stops with the message "the process was successfully stopped" and doesn't appear to be running anymore! I can't seem to change it so that its constantly running. Has anybody come acroos or solved this problem before?

I use Merge replication; not that familiar with Transactional.

Did you configure it to start the Merge Agent when SQL Server starts up?
