Replication problem

Recently took over from previous sys admin.

Replication is failing between two DC's.

Looking into it -
a) The cross ref object for the AD configuration partition in CN=Partitions begins with CNF,
The srv record for the affected DC/domain has the correct GUID in it.
b) Can't add correct crossref object with the same name
c) Can't delete the crossref object
d) No other crossref object exists for the partition without CNF (prob deleted in error by my predecessor)
e) Other DC has correct link but can't replicate it

Short of depromo the affected crossref link DC then repromo, any other options?

Utilize the DCDIAG adn NETDIAG tools to verify your environment. Then post errors that you cannot resolve here.
